COOKIE POLICY
Version 1.0 of 02-03-2023
This Cookie Policy is an integral part of the Privacy Policy.
The user is informed on the use of the site technical cookies through a banner visible every time the site is accessed for the first time, as provided for by the Provision of the Personal Data Protection Authority (No. 229 of May 8th, 2014) and by the Provision No. 231 titled “Linee Guida Cookie e Altri Strumenti di Tracciamento” [Cookie and Other Tracking Tools Guidelines], published in the Official Gazette No. 163 of July 9th, 2021.
What are Cookies?
Cookies consist of code snippets (computer files or partial data) sent by a server to the user’s internet browser, stored automatically from that browser in the user’s computer and sent back automatically to the server at any instance or subsequent access to the site.
A cookie usually contains the name of the web site from which the cookie itself originates; the time span of the cookie (that is, how long it will remain on the user’s device) and a value, that usually is a randomly generated unique number.
On each subsequent visit, the cookies are sent back to the website that originated them (first-party cookies) or to a different site that recognises them (third-party cookies). Cookies are useful, because they allow a website to identify the user’s device, and they have several purposes, such as, for example, to allow for an efficient browsing among pages, remember favourite sites and, generally speaking, improve the browsing experience. They also help ensure that the advertising content displayed online is more targeted to the user and to his interests.
If the user decides to disable the cookies, this may affect and/or limit his browsing experience within the site; for instance, he may not be able to visit certain sections.
The operating modes and the options to restrict or block the cookies may be adjusted by modifying the settings of one’s own internet browser. Most internet browsers are initially set to accept all cookies automatically; the user may at any rate change these settings to block cookies or to be notified whenever cookies are sent to his device.
There are several ways to manage cookies; to such end, one can refer to the browser’s help screen to check how to adjust or change its settings. In fact, the user is enabled to change the default configuration and disable cookies (i.e., to block them permanently), setting the highest level of protection.
Cookies used on the site
This website uses different types of cookies, each with a specific function. This website uses cookies to make the browsing easier. Cookies can be also used to advance future experiences and activities of the users on the site. Moreover, cookies are used to compile anonymous aggregate statistics that allow us to understand how the users use this website and to improve the structure and content of the site. Below is an explanatory list:
-
Technical cookies are essential for the proper functioning of the website and allow users to browse the site and to fully use its features (e.g., they allow the storage of previous activities or saving the user’s session and/or performing other actions strictly necessary for the site performance).
-
The site uses, or can use, even in combination with each other, session cookies that are stored on the user’s computer for mere technical-functional needs, to transmit session identifiers necessary to grant a safe and efficient browsing of the site; they are cancelled at the end of the session (hence the name) when the browser is closed.
-
Persistent cookies that are stored on the computer’s hard disk until they expire or are cancelled by the users. Through persistent cookies, users who access websites (or, possibly, different users who use the same computer) are automatically recognised at each visit.
-
This category also includes analytical cookies that help us understand how users interact with the site, by providing information on the last page visited, the number of sections and pages visited, the time spent on the site and any event occurred during browsing – such as an error message – and help us understand any difficulties the user encounters using the site. This information is analysed together with information from other users so as not to identify a specific user from another. These cookies are collected and aggregated anonymously and allow the site manager to improve the site usability.
-
Finally, functional cookies allow the site to remember the user’s choices (for instance, the username) in order to provide him with a more customised and optimised experience. Functional cookies are not essential for the functioning of sites, but they improve their quality and the browsing experience. If these cookies are not accepted, the performance of the site may be reduced and access to its content may result restricted.
Third-party cookies
When a user uses the site, some cookies that are not controlled by the site manager may be stored. This happens, for instance, if the user visits a page including content from a third-party website. Consequently, the user will receive cookies from these third-party services. On third-party cookies, the site manager has no control over the information provided by the cookie and has no access to these data. This information is fully controlled by the third-party companies as described in their privacy policies.
